The problem with the Expressway is that it was rushed into with a minimal amount of planning and that some of the actions concerning it were done in secrecy. I hope and trust for the sake of Pound that it will never be built in its present form.

I feel quite confident if a public referendum were held consolidation would be overwhelmingly voted down.
One high school will have too big an enrollment- new schools are too expensive. I said in an earlier post that Pound and Appalachia should consider going their own way. If folks at Wise want a new high school- then the Wise school service area should pay for it. Tax revenues from Pound and Appalachia should not be diverted to the purposes of subsidizing other areas of the county.

So if the schools that are there, were mined under already, don't we have to shut them down? Or is putting money into them for renovation, risking being sued?
[/ QUOTE ]It is like the other things that haven't come up. As long as it already exists , not much you can do...but start large expensive projects and we (Wise county residents) will make sure we get it right the first time. BSG and parts near Norton have never been undermined, I think. Plenty of room for all the county students.

[/ QUOTE ]that might be the most ridiculous statement i've ever read on here.
since the courthouse is located in wise, you can build your own in pound. also somebody should make sure that the sherrif's department doesn't respond to calls in pound. i guess they shouldn't hire anybody from pound to work at the courthouse or at any of the businesses in wise, or norton for that matter.
i'm going to put you on my "ignore user" list. you come up with some of the most ridiculous statements that i have ever read. that's why people quit posting on this forum.

If they build a new school, with the technology and resources of today, they can last for 75 years. WIth adequate up keep, who knows how long. The oly thing the schools now have different than caves are less writings of the walls.
[/ QUOTE ]The only thing you are going to get in a new one is the heating, A/C and computer line you lack in your "cave". I guess some of you really won't know the new school additions from the cave you speak of. Glad I can get on-line and TV in my "cave".
Why is it ridiculous? How much severance tax comes from the Wise school service area? Appalachia alone probably produces 80% of the severance tax. The water projects and road projects excluded- what does Appalachia have to show for it? What does Pound have to show for its severance tax revenues? The severance tax has been used to subsidize the tax structure for the rest of the county and to fund projects outside the boundaries of the coal producing communities. Other areas in the county have happily pocketed money from the severance tax- now some of them object to Pound and Appalachia having high schools that are desired by the majority of the people in those communities. I have no objection to Wise building a high school if they want to pay for it. But to shut Appalachia and Pound down after robbing the tax revenues from these communities is a version of public thievery. The severance taxes need to stay in the communities that originate them. The Appalachia and Pound voting precincts would be better off if thet were not even part of Wise County.
A courthouse serving Pound and Appalachia would be just fine. We would be just as well off with our own Sheriff. You obviously have no idea of the tax structure in Wise County. Take a look at the severance tax revenues. You seem to be arrogant enough that you can look down your nose at Appalachia and Pound- but you are happy to take their money.
